Galesburg leaders determined how they will divide funding through their COVID-19 Relief Program to help small businesses.
Small businesses, which have been the hardest hit by the pandemic, previously applied for grants from the $500,000 fund.
The half of a million dollars is coming in equal parts from Illinois and Galesburg.
A total of 35 businesses were selected for $5,000 to $25,000 in grant funding, depending on their needs, and intended for distribution before the end of January.
Businesses will be required to finish all necessary paperwork for the funding to ensure a smooth transfer of money.
Mayor John Prichard said that he is delighted that the city can help these small businesses weather the storm that continues to rage.
"COVID-19 has been extremely hard on small businesses all across our community," Prichard said, Quad Cities reported. "The City of Galesburg is excited to be able to step up and provide assistance for many small businesses that underpin our community's economy and quality of life."
