A Galesburg soldier who selflessly gave his own life in Iraq more than a decade ago, will soon have a permanent memorial in his hometown. The U.S. Post Office on Main Street will soon bear the name of Senior Airman Daniel Miller, who was among the three Americans killed on Jan. 7, 2007, during an attempt to defuse a bomb, WEEK reported.

As of Dec. 11, the resolution to accord the honor upon the 2001 Oneida ROWVA High School graduate had passed the house and has been awaiting Senate approval.

Tim Miller said his late brother did not think twice when it came to putting others before himself.

“It gives our family great pride to see this legislation pass the House,” Tim Miller said in a statement obtained by WEEK.

The facility will be renamed the Airman Daniel Miller Post Office Building after the Senate approves the resolution.

“This is an excellent way to honor his commitment and remember those who have served our nation," Miller said.
