McDonough County Law & Legal Committee Met September 14

McDonough County Law & Legal Committee met Sept. 14.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Rod McGrew, Vice Chair Joe Erlandson, Lee Calvert, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, Bob Mahr, Julie Melvin, and Paul Trimmer. Other persons in attendance were County Chair Scott Schwerer, Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander, Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Tim Lobdell, Chief Deputy Adam Cremer, and Dave Schaab.

Chair McGrew called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve August 3, 2020 Minutes

Member Mahr moved with a second by Member Calvert to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Dave Schaab gave the report. Member Trimmer inquired about the Ameren site that is having soil removed, Schaab said that he will get more information on it. There has been an issue regarding the County’s bills, Schaab said that this has been resolved and that all offices will be receiving their own invoices.

Tri-County Recycling

Tim Lobdell gave the report. The move had messed up their scale but it has been fixed. June was a busy month as they had clean ups for Chalmer, Sciota, and Walnut Grove.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Four Veterans were given assistance in August. Total assistance amounted to $800.47. Smart received word that on Tuesday, September 1 the Veteran’s van could resume transporting patients, however there were 3 appointments scheduled for the week of September 7th and the VA cancelled all of them. Smart thanked Patrick Stout for getting the news out that the VA van is running again.

Sheriff’s Report

Chief Deputy Adam Cremer went over the report. They were able to transfer 1 female and 5 males to the Department of Corrections and they are waiting to hear from the State on 2 more inmates. The staff has been doing a great job of keeping Covid out of the jail, and MDH has been a lot of help with Covid tests. Cremer also discussed the cases that are not being taken to the jail.

Assessor’s Office Update

No report.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Trimmer to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Other

Member McGrew said that Law & Legal needs to start working on the Wind Farm Ordinance. Member Erlandson asked how long the Committee had to go over the ordinance, McGrew said a year, and County Chair Schwerer said 6 months. Erlandson suggested that they go to the wind farm and visit with Jeffrey Butler, a resident that attended last month’s meeting regarding the wind farm.

County Board Chair Comments

County Board Chair informed the Committee that Craig Foster will finish Trevor Toland’s position on the County Board and that Craig will be at Wednesday’s Board Meeting.

Member Erlandson moved with a second by Member Melvin to adjourn the meeting at 7:19 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
