McDonough County Human Resources and Planning Committee met Sept. 10.

The Human Resources and Planning Committee met at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members in attendance included Chair Letha Clark, Vice Chair Mike Cox, Larry Aurelio, George Dixon, Michael Kirby, Terra Litchfield, Deckle McLean, and Dave Nissen. Others in attendance included County Chair Scott Schwerer, Karen Blakely, Patrick Stout, Bonnie Scripps, Gayle Carper, and Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander.
Chair Letha Clark called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Review and Approve Minutes from August 13, 2020
Vice Chair Cox moved with a second by Member McLean to approve the minutes from August 13, 2020, with corrections. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Animal Control Report
Chair Clark went over the report. The total number of animals in the shelter at the end of August was 10 dogs, and 50 cats. The Humane Society has helped get a large number of cats adopted, 32 cats were adopted in August. Nothing has changed with the building and grounds, Member Aurelio informed the Committee that the maintenance director, Allen Sheffler has been out so things will be put on hold.
Member Aurelio moved with a second by Member Litchfield to extend the cat adoption special until December 31, 2020 at the cost of $40.00 for an adoption with a drop down to $25.00 if the cat has been there for more than 2 months. Motion carried on a voice vote.

A memo has been given to the State’s Attorney and to the Humane Society’s attorney, J. DeJoode.
Humane Society
Bonnie Scripps with the Humane Society said that HyVee has been giving donations to the Humane Society along with dog house boxes at checkout. The Humane Society has applied for a grant with Walmart to have cats neutered. They have also used some of their memorial money to purchase a play unit for the cats. Joe has gone back to doing radio interviews regarding the animal shelter. Pet Supply Plus has been taking donations for the animal shelter.

Claims
Member Litchfield moved with a second by Member Kirby to approve claims as submitted. Motion carried on voice vote.
Other
Vice Chair Cox asked if there are any issues that need to be taken care of at the animal shelter. Chair Clark said that the fascia boards still need to be fixed and that they are trying to get covers over the dog runs, she has a copy of the material list that she gave to Chad with the maintenance department in November of 2019. Cox asked if we are willing to spend the money. Cox will get together with Clark and get these projects done, and we do have memorial fund money that can be used for the projects.
County Board Chair Comments
County Chair Schwerer announced that Craig Foster has agreed to replace Trevor Toland on the County Board.
