City of Galesburg issued the following announcement on Sept. 25
The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 385 Bedi Ave. at 5:10 p.m. on September 24, 2020. The response included all three stations and the 12 personnel on duty. Enroute it was reported that flames and smoke could be seen coming from the structure.
The Galesburg Police Department and Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service were on scene first and had begun assisting residents to evacuate the single story-multi family structure. Occupants only suffered minor injuries and were treated and released on-scene. Upon arrival, Acting Battalion Chief Dewey Brackett assumed command, and the fire crew from the Fremont St. Station made entry and quickly extinguished the fire.
An emergency callback of the preceding shift was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the city. The fire damage was contained to the kitchen with smoke damage throughout. The damage was estimated to approximately $20,000. The cause of the fire was determined to be from cooking.
