Under the updated Illinois Human Rights Act, employers must provide all of their workers with sexual harassment prevention training by Dec. 31.

While the department has developed a sexual harassment prevention training program for use by employers, each employer is also permitted to create their own training, so long as it meets or exceeds the standards outlined in law, according to the Illinois Department of Human Rights.

The law also requires employers in Illinois to provide annual training to all employees. Restaurants and bars are also required to establish and disseminate a written policy on sexual harassment prevention training, as well as providing supplemental training.

The department has a frequently asked questions page, and the model  sexual harassment prevention training program can be downloaded from the website in PowerPoint or PDF formats, as well as a Spanish PDF version.
