McDonough County Finance Committee met Aug. 12.

The Finance Committee Budget meeting was held on Tuesday, August 12, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, 3rd Floor Law Library. Committee members present were Chair Travis Hiel, Vice Chair Larry Aurelio, Letha Clark, Dave Cortelyou, and Dave Nissen. Member Rod McGrew was absent. Other persons present were Board Member Joe Erlandson, Board Member Deckle McLean, Gina Bickers, John Meixner, Stephanie Hilton, Sandy Nelson, Lynette Cale, Matt Kwacala, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes.
Chair Hiel called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
BUDGET-The Elms
Tim Bledsoe was unavailable so Gina Bickers presented the budget in his place.
BUDGET-ROE Superintendent
Superintendent John Meixner presented his budget. He informed the committee that McDonough County is responsible for 29.81% of his budget.
BUDGET-Public Defender
Public Defender Stephanie Hilton presented her budget and does not have any major changes.
BUDGET-708 Board
Sandy Nelson presented her budget giving a brief overview of her requests.
BUDGET-McDonough County Health Department
Director Lynette Cale presented her budget. She requested $30,000 for the Tuberculosis Board, they have had 2 cases in the last 2 years. Cale asked for a 2.3% increase in funding and would increase the levy by $7,762.73. Chair Hiel asked why they haven’t been billing Schuyler County, Cale is hoping to bill them by September, and that the agreement with Schuyler County ends in November 2020.
BUDGET-McDonough County State’s Attorney
State’s Attorney Matt Kwacala presented his budget. He requested a salary increase of 3% for his employees, his salary is set by the State. Kwacala requested more funding for office supplies as Westlaw will be increasing their cost.
BUDGET-McDonough County Clerk
County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes requested a 2% salary increase, and informed the committee that her budget for elections will be less.
BUDGET-McDonough County Animal Shelter
HR & Planning Committee Chair Letha Clark went over the budget. There will be little to no changes, and they will need new computers.

Member Clark moved with a second by Member Nissen that the meeting be adjourned at 4:50 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
