Tom and Lois England have donated $10,000 to the Knoxville Fire Department for new fire equipment.
“Lois and I believe it is important that our community recognizes the sacrifices our volunteer firefighters make in order to protect both our property and our lives,” Tom told members of the Knoxville Community Fire Protection District Trustees, the Galesburg Register reported. The couple received a standing ovation.
The gift is believed to be the KFD’s largest non-memorial donation, the story said. England, working with Knoxville Fire Chief Jeff Vandemark, developed of a list of equipment most needed by the firefighters. Purchases includes a professional-grade fire fan to remove smoke from a building after a fire, spotlights, air tank brackets for fire trucks, and a thermal camera.
The Englands said they wanted to contribute money for equipment the fire department needed but could not buy with funds available in its regular annual budget.
