ROWVA Community Unit School District #208 Board of Education met July 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The ROWVA Board of Education met in their regular meeting in the High School LMC. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Haynes at 7:00 p.m.

The following members answered roll call at 7:00 p.m.:

Mr. Johnson (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kalb (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Lake (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. West (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Present ☒ Not Present ☐).

Mr. West moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda for the minutes of June 29, 2020, the Treasurer’s Report, and the payment of all bills in Education, Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, IMRF, Working Cash, Fire/Safety and Activity Funds as listed on the official copy. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye☒ Nay☐), and Mr.Haynes (Aye☒Nay☐). Motion carried.

People present were Board members, administrators, two members of the certified staff, one member of the support staff, four members of the public and Bell of the press.

Mrs. Danner presented the elementary principal’s report. She reviewed: Staff getting the building ready for school, classrooms are being reset from flexible seating to desks for social distancing purposes.

Mr. Seaney presented the Jr./Sr. high school principal’s report. He reviewed: 2-3 classrooms remain to be cleaned and floors waxed, graduation will be August 2nd on the football field, SAT rescheduled for Class of ’21 to October 4th.

Mr. Sornberger presented the superintendent’s report. Superintendent Sornberger presented the face-to-face learning plans for elementary and JH/HS. Please refer to the district website for the current plans. Plans will adjust as necessary to conform to IDPH guidelines.

Mr. Sornberger recommended accepting the Gas and Diesel Bids from Herr Petroleum, the Bread bid from Aunt Millie’s Bakeries, and the Milk bid from Enyeart Distributing for the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Johnson moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye☒Nay☐). Motioncarried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the 2020-2021 school year calendar for revision and recommended that it be approved as presented. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the Pandemic Handbook for the first reading.

Mr. Sornberger recommended opening the closed minutes from December 2019 through May 2020. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the PRESS Policies for the first reading.

Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion to move into closed session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining, and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Lake moved and Mr. West seconded the motion to return to open session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining, and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 8:45 p.m.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Taylor Claus as a Kindergarten Teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Missy Clevenger as a Kindergarten Teacher for the 2020- 2021 school year. Mr. Lake moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Brett Knuth as an Evening Shift Custodian for the Elementary Building. Mr. West moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger has requested approval to post job openings for Full Time Subs, a HS Math Teacher, a JH Special Education Aide and a One-on-One Aide for Elementary. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Kuelper moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion to adjourn at 8:49 p.m. Motion carried.
