ROWVA Community Unit School District #208 Board of Education met Aug. 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The ROWVA Board of Education met in their regular meeting in the High School LMC. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Haynes at 7:00 p.m.

The following members answered roll call at 7:00 p.m:

Mr. Johnson (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kalb (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Lake (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. West (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Present ☒ Not Present ☐). Mrs. Shepherd attended via telephone.

Mr. Lake moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda for the minutes of July 20, 2020, the Treasurer’s Report, and the payment of all bills in Education, Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, IMRF, Working Cash, Fire/Safety and Activity Funds as listed on the official copy. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), andMr.Haynes(Aye☒Nay☐). Motion carried.

People present were Board members, administrators, and three members of the certified staff.

Mrs. Danner presented the elementary principal’s report. She reviewed: New teacher orientation was held last week – eight (8) new teachers; elementary building is ready with exception of waxing hallway floors; review of Return to School plan

Mr. Seaney presented the jr./sr. high school principal’s report. He reviewed: High school and junior high buildings are ready except for finishing up some painting; new teacher orientation for six (6) new teachers; review of Return to School plan

Mr. Sornberger presented the superintendent’s report. All items were Agenda items.

Mr. Sornberger presented the Elementary and Jr/Sr High Handbooks for the second reading and requested they be approved as presented with the additional COVID-19 language. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the Remote Learning Plan for another review and requested that it be approved. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the Transition to School Plan and requested that it be approved. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the tentative FY21 Budget.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that September 21, 2020 at 6:50 pm be the date for the Budget Hearing. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the PRESS Policies for the second reading and recommended they be approved. Mr. Johnson moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Sub Pay be increased from $75 per day to $100 per day. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger stated that the lowest renovation bid for the Administration Building was $125,000 and recommended that all bids be rejected. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion to move into closed session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion to return to open session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 8:25 p.m.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the resignation of Maria Salsman (HS Math) be accepted. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Max Roberts be hired as a HS Math Teacher for the 2020- 2021 School Year. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Annabeth Gibbons be hired as a Math Proctor for the 2020- 2021 School Year. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Rayanne Harrison be hired as a long-term substitute in Pre-K for the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Laura Rees be hired as an Elementary Special Education Teacher. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Karla Perez be hired as a Junior High Special Education Paraprofessional. Mr. Johnson moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Jennafer Fisher be hired as a Full-Time Substitute for the Elementary School. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Brittany Secor be hired as a Full-Time Substitute for the High School. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Cade Clark be hired as a Custodian (Flex Shift). Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Greg Rohweder be hired as a Custodian (Night Shift). Mr. West moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Grant Gullstrand as the JH Assistant Baseball Coach. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Finance Committee met to discuss refinancing of the bonds related to the elementary building.

Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. West seconded the motion to adjourn at 8:43 p.m. Motion carried.
