United Board of Education met July 27.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER 

The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m., July 27, 2020. Roll was called and answered by: Dana Poole, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary (remotely) and Hank Shimmin. Also in attendance: Sheila Pressley, Amy Schmitz, Chris Schwarz, Chad Robertson, Maggie Wallace, Pat Coate, Kris Repp and the attached list of community members.

AGENDA 

Hank Shimmin made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Aaron Leary Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Aaron Leary and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

PUBLIC COMMENTS 

Several members of the community spoke to the board on the re-opening of school due to COVID-19.

BOARD MEMBER 

A motion to appoint Amelia Tierney as member of the United CUSD Board of Education was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Aaron Leary and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

BOARD SECRETARY 

Joel Johnson made a motion to appoint Aaron Leary as Board Secretary through the remainder of the term. Hank Shimmin made a second to the motion Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

FACE COVERINGS 

A motion was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Aaron Leary to approve policy option 2 regarding face coverings. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

SCHOOL OPENING 

A motion to approve school opening option #2 (every day) was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye - Joel Johnson, Debbie King & Craig Allaman. Nay - Hank Shimmin, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Dana Poole. Motion failed 4-2

Hank Shimmin made a motion to approve school opening option #1 (hybrid model). Amelia Tierney seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye - Hank Shimmin, Amelia Tierney, Aaron Leary & Dana Poole. Nay - Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson & Debbie King. Motion carried 4-2

CALENDAR 

A motion to amend the 2020-2021 calendar as presented was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Hank Shimmin. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

EMPLOYMENT 

Debbie King made a motion to employ Molly Quinn as long term sub in the Cross Cat classroom at United HS for the 2020-21 school year. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

Adjourn Joel Johnson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:11 p.m. Craig Allaman seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Craig Allaman and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.
