Abingdon-Avon Community Unit No. 276 Board of Education met July 23.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. with Brooks presiding. The following members were present: Hess, Terwilliger, Mason, Serven, Craver, and Brooks. Mr. Quinn joined the meeting at 7:20 p.m.

A motion was made by Mr. Serven and seconded by Mr. Mason to approve the Agenda. Roll call: Hess, yea; Terwilliger, yea; Mason, yea; Serven, yea; Craver, yea; and Brooks, yea. Motion passed.

Dr. Curry detailed each of the four Return-to-School options that were presented at the previous meeting. He listed the pros, cons, processes necessary to implement and a level of difficulty to implement rating. He also discussed data obtained from Parents and Staff through multiple surveys. The four options presented to the Board included: 1.) Remote Instruction and Learning. 2.) Hybrid District Model. 3.) Blended-Learning Model. 4.) All-in with Social Distancing. The Board discussed all four plans at length. The Board determined that any Return-to-School plan must include students back in school in some form. After a lengthy and productive debate, filled with questions for Superintendent Curry, building administration, and staff members in the audience, the Board selected the Blended-Learning Model. The Blended-learning Model consists of dividing the students into two different groups. Each group will attend school in-person 2 days per week and receive remote instruction three days per week. This model provides for proper social distancing (6 ft.) in all classrooms.

A motion was made by Mr. Quinn and seconded by Mr. Mason to approve the Disposal of Excess Equipment as Presented. Roll call: Hess, yea; Terwilliger, yea; Mason, yea; Serven, yea; Quinn, yea; Craver, yea; and Brooks, yea. Motion passed.

A motion was made by Mr. Craver and seconded by Mr. Hess to approve the Directive for Return-to-School in a Blended-learning Model in FY 21. Roll call: Hess, yea; Terwilliger, yea; Mason, yea; Serven, yea; Quinn, yea; Craver, yea; and Brooks, yea. Motion passed.

A Meeting Date of Monday, August 3, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. was scheduled for Approval of Detailed Return-to-School Plan based on the Board's Blended-Learning Model Directive.

A motion was made by Mr. Mason and seconded by Mr. Quinn to Adjourn at 8:35 p.m. Roll call: Quinn, yea; Mason, yea; Serven, yea; Craver, yea; Hess, yea; and Brooks, yea. Motion passed.
