Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has received approval to fine business owners if they refuse to enforce his mask mandate.
Under Pritzker's mask mandate, police and persecutors can fine business up to $2,500 if they fail to enforce the mask mandate, Illinois Policy reported in August. Individuals cannot be fined for a company failing to execute the order, only businesses as a whole.
"They need to be reminded and reminded and then fined if they are not following this rule for the state of Illinois," Pritzker said, the Illinois Policy reported.
But some community members don't think this should be allowed.
Village True Value owner Linda Johnson, in Western Springs, said if businesses fail to meet guidelines, owners shouldn't be treated as criminals.
"We definitely, absolutely, support individuals wearing masks. That goes without saying," Johnson said, the Illinois Policy reported. "But if the governor believes individuals are not complying, I believe the enforcement should be on the individual. We can't control what they do."
