The Galesburg Community Foundation (GCF) recently announced on its website that it will be awarding 2020 Turnout Grants to make sure that local nonprofits are able to continue operating despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

GCF has already been in contact with organizations directly impacted by COVID-19 and aims to help those in Knox and Warren Counties. The foundation’s board of directors has approved the support, giving GCF the green light to pull any restrictions on grants that were already given out amid the 2019 Turnout Grant Cycle.

Ultimately, the organizations that couldn’t finish programs they applied for in 2019 under the Turnout Grant Cycle – because of the COVID-19 pandemic – can use that money to continue providing services. At the same time, the 2020 Turnout Grant Cycle will look different from previous years because of social distancing guidelines and restrictions.

Considering the changes, the foundation's board will award the nonprofit organizations that received grants last year with 60% of that funding – which they can use however they want. The board is urging the 43 nonprofit organizations impacted to use the other 40% toward COVID-19 efforts and sustainability.

“Our nonprofits are hard at work making sure that residents have what they need during this difficult time,” said Galesburg Community Foundation President and CEO Joshua Gibb, according to GCF.org. “Their important services span food, utility assistance, senior services, access to the arts, education and so much more – services that enable and enrich our daily lives. We are grateful to the many people who give to our Community Impact Fund to ensure that we can proactively grant these dollars – especially in today’s environment.”

While those who didn’t take part in last year’s Turnout Grant Cycle cannot take advantage of the 60% 2020 Turnout Grant, GCF is offering funding through other capacities this year. The organizations are encouraged to contact Director of Grants and Programs Tiffany Springer at TSpringer@YourGCF.org or 309-344-8898.
