Mercer County School District #404 Board of Education met March 18.

The Board of Education of Mercer County School District #404, Mercer, Henderson, & Rock Island Counties, Illinois, convened at a regular meeting at the Mercer County School District Office at 6:00PM.
Prior to Roll Call, Jake Frieden opened with a brief prayer followed by the pledge of allegiance led by Vice President Don Yates.
ATTENDANCE
Board members present upon roll call: Balmer, Bowns, Dillavou, Frieden, Smock, and Yates.
Balmer and Smock joined via video conference. A quorum was present.

2. There was a motion by Dillavou, seconded by Bowns, to approve the IHSA Membership renewal at no cost, as presented.

3. There was a motion by Bowns, seconded by Smock, to accept the bid from CAD Construction for Apollo School Exit Door work at a cost of $65,700.

MCJH CAFETERIA RE-ROOF
4. There was a motion by Frieden, seconded by Bowns, to accept the bid from Frank Millard Co. for the Junior High Cafeteria Re-Roof at the cost of $58,580.

LONG RANGE FACILITIES STUDY
5. There was a motion by Frieden, seconded by Bowns, to approve the Long Range Facilities Study from Bray Architects as presented.

ELA CURRICULUM 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR
6. There was a motion by Frieden, seconded by Bowns, to adopt Amplify K-8 ELA Curriculum beginning the 2020-2021 school year with a total cost of $163,504.

E-LEARNING PLANS
7. There was a motion by Frieden, seconded by Dillavou, to approve the Draft E-Learning Plan as presented.

CLOSED SESSION
8. There was a motion by Frieden, seconded by Bowns, to go into Closed Session after a short recess for Personnel, Negotiations., and Security at 6:33PM.
8.1 Personnel
The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)
8.2 Negotiations
Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(2).
8.3 Security
Emergency security procedures and the use of personnel and equipment to respond to an actual, a threatened, or a reasonably potential danger to the safety of employees, students, staff, the public or public property. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(8).

RESOLUTION OF NON RENEWAL
10. There was a motion by Yates, seconded by Frieden, to approve the Resolution of Non-Renewal, for reasons other than reduction in force, of Mason Hultgren after the 2019-2020 school year.

HIRE APOLLO 1ST GRADE TEACHER
11. There was a motion by Bowns, seconded by Frieden, to hire Alison Lafever as Apollo Elementary 1st Grade Teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.

HIRE NBE 3RD GRADE TEACHER
12. There was a motion by Yates, seconded by Wagner, to hire Kaylee Morrison as New Boston Elementary 3rd Grade Teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.

HIRE APOLLO PARA
13. There was a motion by Yates, seconded by Frieden, to hire Jessica Thomas as Apollo One on One Paraprofessional.

HIRE MCIS SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
14. There was a motion by Wagner, seconded by Bowns, to hire Richelle Scott as Mercer County Intermediate School Special Education Teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.

15. There was a motion by Wagner, seconded by Bowns, to approve Hannah Baker as Volunteer High School Softball Coach.

4. Mike Bowns commended the Mercer County School District for outstanding performance shown during the COVID19 healthcare scare. Mr. Petrie mentioned the meal distribution sites and locations. We served 93 students the first day and he expects that number to increase.
