Chicago (37,919 cases) and Cook County (26,772 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,729, while Cook County recorded 1,251 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 621,684, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 17,820 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 46,618 were male and 49,307 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 2,433, while female deaths stood at 1,941.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,869 Hispanics, 207 Asians, 1,869 whites, 1,373 African-Americans, and 146 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
