Wise Family - Hoover Hall Funeral Home recently issued the following announcement.

Obituary

Mary Hayes, 92, of Avon, IL passed away Monday, May 8, 2020, 10:22 p.m. at the Elm Nursing Home in Macomb, IL. She was born Friday, September 5, 1927 in the Marietta and Bushnell areas, the daughter of Floyd and Edna (Elston) Buchen.

Mary graduated as Valedictorian from Prairie City High School. During WWII she took a job in a factory making bomb bands for the war effort. She later graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in elementary education and taught fifth grade in the Abingdon School district for twenty-three years.

On July 7, 1947, Mary married Robert Linwood Hayes in Avon, IL. They raised two children who survive her. They are, Linda (William) Hammargren of Avon, and David (Carol) Hayes of Sand Springs, OK., one grandchild, Brian Hendricks, and four nephews, Gary Osborn, Jerry Buchen, Keith Buchen and Dan Buchen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her siblings (Robert Buchen), (Ann Osborn) and one nephew (Scott Osborn).

Mary was an avid reader and remained interested in education all her life. In her retirement years she was a member of the Avon Library Board. Due to social distancing limitations related to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a private family graveside service at ta later date.
