McDonough County Law & Legal Committee met March 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse in the Law Library. 

Committee Members present included Committee Chair Rod McGrew, Lee Calvert, Joe Erlandson, Michael Kirby, Bob Mahr, Julie Melvin, Travis Hiel and Paul Trimmer. Other persons in attendance were County Chair Scott Schwerer, Chief Deputy Adam Cremer, County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes, County Board Assistant Jana Walker, Patrick Stout and Heather McMeekan.

Chair McGrew called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve February 6, 2020 Minutes Member Trimmer moved, seconded by Member Mahr, to approve the February 6, 2020 minutes. Motion carried on voice vote.

Waste Management Update Dave Schaab gave report.

Tri-County Recycling Tim Lobdell was unable to attend.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report Ric Smart was unable to attend, but reported that five veterans were given assistance in January. Total assistance amounted to $1,262.87. The transportation van made 11 trips to Iowa City. We made one trip to Quincy. We transported 17 veterans total of 2,757 miles. Our drivers contributed 79.25 hours of their time. Ric is needing drivers for the program.

Sheriff’s Report Chief Deputy Cremer reported, population was at 33, which is right around average. Slowing down on house checks for the wind farm.

Assessor’s Office Update No report.

Discuss McDonough County Cannabis Ordinance Member Trimmer motioned to send to full board, second by Member Cortelyou. Member Marcott questioned the tax and Motion carried on a voice vote.

Claims Review and Approval Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Melvin to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

County Board Chair Comments Chair Schwerer told the Committee there is a vacancy on the Housing Authority Board and any suggestions would be welcome.

Public Comment Heather McMeekan, Chair of McDonough County Democratic Women, addressed the Committee.

Adjourn With no further business to discuss, Member Mahr moved, seconded by Member Hiel, to adjourn at 7:23 p.m.
