United Board of Education met March 12.

CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. March 12, 2020. Roll was called and answered by: Dana Poole, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Kristin Dutton and Debbie King. Also in attendance: Carson Clayton, Sheila Pressley, Kelley Whitsitt, Meliah Sims, Heidi, Sophia & Lillian Ruderman, Justine & Devin Anderson, Aubrey & Gage Bainter, Tom & Andy Jenks, Amy Schmitz, Pat Coate, Chris Schwarz, Maggie Wallace and Kris Repp.

AGENDA

Aaron Leary made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Hank Shimmin. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Kristin Dutton and Debbie King. Nay – none.

PUBLIC COMMENTS

Carson Clayton addressed the board regarding social media and the impact on coaches, teams, players and families.

SHOWCASING

The board discussed the timeline and finalized details for the all-weather track project.

IHSA

Aaron Leary made a motion to approve renewing our membership in the IHSA. Hank Shimmin seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Kristin Dutton and Debbie King. Nay – none.

PERSONNEL

A motion to approve the personnel report, including the rehire of all tenured staff; move to continued contraction service of : Amanda Hennenfent, Courtney Anderson, Vanessa Witherell, Carey Feltmeyer, Alison Harden & Shane Hill and the re-employment of all non-tenured staff members was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Aaron Leary. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Kristin Dutton and Debbie King. Nay – none.

CTE

Hank Shimmin made a motion to approve a new CTE “Work Experience” program which will offer senior students an opportunity to work outside the school during the day. Debbie King seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Kristin Dutton and Debbie King. Nay – none.

MOWING

A motion to approve A-N-G Enterprises to do the district mowing for calendar year 2020 was made by Kristin Dutton with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Kristin Dutton and Debbie King. Nay – none.

Aaron Leary and Hank Shimmin left the meeting at 7:05 p.m.

SUPT REPORT

The board heard information regarding refunding of Series 2010 Bond and the savings potential. E-Learning was discussed regarding the Coronavirus.

CONSENT AGENDA

A resolution to approve the consent agenda as presented was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson and Debbie King. Nay – none.

CLOSED SESSION

At 7:23, Craig Allaman made a motion to enter into closed session, with intent to return to open, for the purpose of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. The selection of a person to fill a public office, including a vacancy in public office, when the District is given power to appoint under law, or the discipline, performance or removal of the occupant of a public office, when the District is given power to remove the occupant under law. Debbie King seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Aaron Leary & Hank Shimmin; Nay – none.

EMPLOYMENT

A motion was made by Debbie King with a second by Craig Allaman to employ the winter coaching slate for the 2020-21 school year as presented. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman & Joel Johnson; Nay – none.

Joel Johnson made a motion with a second by Craig Allaman to employ Lindsey Temple as 1st grade teacher at the North Elementary for the 2020-21 school year. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Aaron Leary & Hank Shimmin; Nay – none.

A motion to employ Alex Kivkitvich as HS English Teacher,for the 2020-21 school year was made by Joel Johnson, with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman & Joel Johnson; Nay – none.

A motion to employ Courtney Eklund as a 2nd grade teacher at the West Campus for the 2020-2021 school year. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman & Joel Johnson; Nay – none.

A motion to employ Verne Goodman as evening custodian at the High School was made by Debbie King with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman & Joel Johnson; Nay – none.

ADJOURN

Craig Allaman made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 p.m. Debbie King seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman & Joel Johnson. Nay – none.
