Immaculate Conception School Board met Feb. 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Meeting brought to order at 7:00 p.m. 

Opening Prayer: Fr. Carl led the prayer.

Roll Call:

Attendees: Tammy Hoeflinger, Jean Swip, Katie Hrdlicka, Donna Frederick, Megan Gilbreth, Toby Ellner, Trish Adams, Janice Schaefer, Donna Videmschek, Deidra Doerr, Jason Moore, Angela Ettling, teacher rep

Mike Kish and Fr. Carl.

Not attending: Keith Huels, Ray Farley 

Welcoming of Guests

Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve by Donna Frederick and seconded by Megan Gilbreth. All in favor. No opposed.

Parents and Friends Report: Parents and Friends agreed to fund additional costs for Mix it up day to bring Sr. Thea Bowman and then first grade will invite Sr. Thea also for Butterfly House next month. Mr. Kish wrote a grant from the Diocese to help defray transportation costs. 5K is coming up May 1st. May 7th is Give STL Day with no match from parents and Friends. Box Tops are down since it’s more of an app than clipping the little squares.

Pastoral Council Report: Had a lengthy discussion about stewardship of charity and also setting up The Catholic Antiques “Roadshow” which will be February 29-March 1. If you have anything, let us know.

1) Teacher/Employee Committee: Meeting next month with the teachers

2) Development Committee: Open House was a great success. Thanks to everyone that helped. The next thing the committee is working on is a survey for the parents.

3) Curriculum Committee: No report

4) Athletic Committee: Had an impromptu meeting with Tara at open house. We discussed the court shoes and maybe matching socks and the style of the new volleyball uniforms next year. 7th and 8th Track are ordered.

5) Budget Committee: No report. Discussed Keith’s report.

6) Discernment Committee: This will start up soon. The board alternates will be contacted to see if they are interested. They will start working with Parish Council on some dates and also when the boxes will be put out. March 7th and 8th a rep will sit in the back of church and let people know what school board is all about.

7) Building/Grounds Committee: The main focus is to work on signs around school for the playground and also for the main parking lot. Also focus on the crosswalk outside of school. The committee will meet with John Whitworth before doing some of this. The Guardian Angel statue is slated for installation.

Faculty Report: Right now, things are settling down as the holidays are over. Fourth grade is keeping busy and just read Frindle. We will also be preparing for Lent. We are adding a prayer walk to our field trip this spring at Camp Vandeventer. Second grade is getting ready to do their biography parade at Columbia Rehab and Nursing.

Principal’s Report:

1. Budget report shows that the Fathers Club is at zero, but they have spent several thousand for the new CEAC. We have a lot of things that needs to be done this spring and little by little things will get finished.

2. We have a good scholastic bowl this year and State is held the night of awards night. This is 7th and 8th graders. We are asking to possibly move it to the following Friday which will be the 15th. We ca also wait to see what we do at Sectionals on may 4. We will ask the 8th grade parents what they would like.

3. Good faculty meeting last week. Talked a lot about next year and some things that need to be worked on. We are still getting use to this place and some things may need to change a bit.

4. A lot of academic success so far. 9 kids took the history bee and 9 kids qualified. We have a lot of teachers that spend a lot of extra time here. Our teachers take the time to give our students opportunity. Young Authors has been very successful, we had 252 kids participate. Carrie Stark will pass the chairmanship to Susie Funk and Jessica Dickman for next year. Scholastic Bowl 3rd at Mater Dei of 30 schools—beat the champ in the morning and lost by 5 to second place.

5. Staffing for next year. We will have some changes for various reasons. Will know more in March

6. Mass for dads and maybe donuts, this will be March 19th, Thursday, All School Mass, Feast of St. Joseph.

7. We are thinking about Music Appreciation and making some changes.

8. One teacher interested in Coca this summer. Mr. Kish will continue to promote.

9. Robotics has started.

10. Will be working on science fair for next year, so we are all on the same page.

11. We had some bus issues with discipline. We are working on this. A letter went home to the parents.

Pastor’s Report: We will have Mardi Gras next Tuesday with pancakes and sausage with the Knights of Columbus. Ash Wednesday follows. Stations of the Cross will start as well on Fridays; we will have 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. Columbia Counts group has organized to help with the Census done every 10 years. An accurate count grants more money to our area. We had a notice in the bulletin and will hang some posters up to remind everyone. April 1st is the official day. 1846---175 year anniversary is next year and there will be planning for this. The women’s acts retreat was very successful. The men’s acts retreat is the end of April.

Old Business: None

New Business: Talked about having a short reflection period before each meeting. Fr. Carl volunteered to do the first one in March.

Fr. Carl closed the meeting with prayer at 8:15 p.m.
