The Illinois COVID-19 Response Fund has awarded $100,000 to the Galesburg Community Foundation's Rapid Response Fund.

Nonprofits are playing a vital role in communities now as they help provide funding for food and housing assistance, health care services, funding for vulnerable populations, and other necessary financial assistance during times of great need.

Galesburg Community Foundation will use the funding to issue grants to local nonprofits in Knox and Warren county communities that offer these social services, according to The Register-Mail.

As of May 17, Illinois reported 92,457 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 4,129 deaths. Knox County has 86 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and Warren Ciunty has 106.

Joshua Gibb, president and CEO of Galesburg Community Foundation, has also been named as a member of ICRF’s Grantmaking Working Group, according to the newspaper.

“I was pleased to be named to the ICRF Working Group to aid grant makers and foundations from across the state and assess the needs of rural Illinois during this time,” Gibb said. “The Galesburg Community Foundation team is in continual conversations with nonprofits serving our region to ensure we can put the ICRF dollars to work effectively and efficiently.”

The Galesburg Community Foundation Rapid Response Fund was created in partnership with various entities including the Twomey Foundation, the G.L. Vitale Family Foundation, the McClean Family Endowment Fund, the Warren County United Way, and the United Way of Knox County, according to The Register-Mail.

The Galesburg Community Foundation will continue accepting donations as they continue to provide assistance to nonprofits dealing with COVID-19. To make a donation, visit www.YourGCF.org/MakeAGift.
