City of Knoxville City Council met March 2.

Call to Order: City Clerk Wilt called the Meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
All rose to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
Due to the absence of Mayor Maurer, Alderman Gruner moved to appoint Alderman Myers as Mayor Pro Tem for this meeting. Alderman Hillier seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote with no dissent.
Roll Call: Present: Aldermen Eiker, Gruner, Hillier, Hope, Howard, Myers, and Naslund; Treasurer Bivens, Chief of Police Poyner, Attorney McCoy, and City Clerk Wilt. Absent: Mayor Maurer, Alderman Benjamin. Also in attendance: Mr. Justin Hensley, Miss Breena Shreeves, Mrs. Lisa Shreeves.
Public Comments: None.
Approval of Minutes: Alderman Howard moved to approve the Minutes of the February 17, 2020 City Council Meeting. Alderman Eiker seconded the motion which passed by voice vote with no dissent.

NEW BUSINESS
1. Knoxville High School Project Graduation Request: Knoxville High School senior Breena Shreeves asked the Council to sponsor Project Graduation, a fun, substance-free event for graduating seniors. Alderman Hillier moved to contribute $1,460.00 to Project Graduation, which is $20.00 for each of the 73 seniors. Alderman Eiker seconded the motion, which passed with seven (7) Yes votes and one (1) Absent.
2. July 4 5K Run: Mr. Justin Hensley, Knoxville Junior High Track and Cross Country Coach, requested permission to hold the 2nd Knoxville Firecracker 5K on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 7:30 am. Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Milk Fund of Knox County. Alderman Hillier moved to allow the run. Alderman Gruner seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote with no dissent.
3. Spring Clean-Up Date Selection: Alderman Hope moved to set spring clean up for the week of April 20, 2020. Alderman Eiker seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote with no dissent.
4. Resolution 2020-04 – Hire Part Time Police Officer Robert Nichols: Alderman Naslund moved to approve Resolution 2020-04 to hire Part Time Police Officer Robert Nichols at $15.00 per hour. Alderman Howard seconded the motion, which passed with seven (7) Yes votes and one (1) Absent.
Mayor’s Report:
• Due to an employee death at his firm, two scheduled meetings with Engineer Cooper concerning Street Projects and a City Hall addition were cancelled and will be rescheduled.
• The next regularly scheduled Council meeting will be held on Monday, March 16, 2020 at 7:00 pm.
• The Public Library Board will meet on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 7:00 pm.
Committee Reports
• Administration: No report.
• Cemetery: No report.
• Economic Development: No report.
• Parks: No report.
• Police: Alderman Naslund reported that Officer Barry Petzold has been released from
the hospital following his February 16, 2020 fall, but there is no word on when he may return to work. Officer Shawn Keith has resigned to take a position with another agency, leaving the department short two full time officers. Chief Poyner discussed options for hiring additional full and part time employees.
