ROWVA Community Unit School District 208 Board of Education met March 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The ROWVA Board of Education met in their regular meeting in the High School LMC. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Haynes at 7:00 p.m.

The following members answered roll call at 7:00 p.m.:

Mr. Johnson (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kalb (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Lake (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. West (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Present ☒ Not Present ☐).

Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda for the minutes of February 18, 2020, the Treasurer’s Report, and the payment of all bills in Education, Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, IMRF, Working Cash, Fire/Safety and Activity Funds as listed on the official copy. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye☒Nay☐),andMr.Haynes(Aye☒Nay☐). Motion carried.

People present were Board members, administrators, three members of the teaching staff and Bell of the press.

Mrs. Danner presented the elementary principal’s report. She reviewed: School year goals, education spotlight, professional development, state requirements and upcoming events/activities.

Mr. Seaney presented the jr./sr. high school principal’s report. He reviewed: School year goals, student discipline, student spotlight, education spotlight, future ready, and upcoming events/activities.

Mr. Sornberger presented the superintendent’s report. All items are Agenda items.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the Board adopt the Resolution Reference Honorable Dismissal of Jessica Kuelper as presented, and that the Superintendent be authorized and directed to deliver or, cause to be delivered, the notice to the employee as specified in the resolution. Mr. West moved and Mr.J ohnson seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr.Johnson(Aye☒Nay☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper Abstain XX (Aye ☐ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried 6-0 with one abstention.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the Board adopt the Resolution of Dismissal of First-Year Probationary Teacher Brandon Carlson as presented, and that the Superintendent be authorized and directed to deliver or, cause to be delivered, the notice to the employee as specified in the resolution. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye☒Nay☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the tentative 2020-2021 school year calendar for the second review and recommended that it be approved as presented. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended to renew the IHSA/IESA memberships. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that himself, Jim Haynes, Gary Haynes, Glen Scott, Dustin Steck and Jimmy Walker be approved as the Bass Fishing Team boat captains for the 2020 season. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried with one abstention.

Mr. Sornberger presented the PRESS Policies for the second reading and recommended they be approved as presented. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mrs. Danner presented information regarding a therapy dog at the Elementary School.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to accept sealed bids for a school bus and a Ford Focus. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion to move into closed session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye☒Nay☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye☒Nay☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye☒Nay☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Johnson moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion to return to open session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 7:57 p.m.

Mr. Sornberger recommended accepting the resignations from Taylor Morland (4th Grade) and Patrycia Kuczynski (4th Grade) at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to post job openings for two (2) Elementary Teachers, a K-12 Special Education Teacher and a Driver Education Instructor for the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Katie Sexton as a 2nd Grade Teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Dean Mastin as a Maintenance Worker for the 2019-2020 school year. Mr. West moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended approving the retirement of Nadine Nice at the end of the 2021- 2022 school year. Mr. Kalb moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.
