City of Monmouth City Council met Jan. 21.

Here is the agenda provided by the council:

1– Presentations Or Citizen Inquiries

No presentations were made to City Council this evening.

2- Fire Department Monthly Report – Chief Rexroat

• During a weekly inspection of the aerial ladder on Tower 22, two pulleys were found to be rubbing on the frame. A mechanic from Alexis Fire Equipment has recommended that the aerial ladder be taken out of service until it can be repaired. The truck will soon be taken to Alexis to have the pulleys repaired.

• The department is currently in the process of hiring two new firefighters. The prospective employees are currently undergoing pre-employment exams.

• Training for the month was on the topic of the special considerations that may be present during medical calls. Firefighters discussed the topic and reviewed various ways to effectively communicate with patients who may not be english speakers or may have other communication barriers.

• Chief Rexroat attended a State Fire Code workshop in Springfield that was held at the State Fire Marshall’s Office. The State of Illinois has recently adopted the new NFPA Life Safety Code, and the updated code was discussed at the workshop.

3- Police Department Monthly Report – Chief Switzer

• Lt. Bratcher conducted Active Shooter/Workplace violence training with approximately 100 Smithfield employees.

• The Fraternal Order Of Police and MPD staff hosted the annual Cops and Kids event. During the event, 25 children went shopping with an Officer and were allowed to spend approximately $100.00 on gifts for themselves or others.

• Strom Center, The F.O.P., and MPD Staff also hosted the annual Power For Seniors event. The event consisted of providing a meal for seniors who attended, as well as gift card giveaways from Ameren and Save-A-Lot foods.

• The Police Department and Fire Department both partnered with Smithfield Fresh Meats to give away dozens of hams to the community for the holidays.

4- Approval Of IMEG engineering Agreement – Phase 1 of West Harlem Avenue

The City is currently in the first stages of planning for the reconstruction and resurfacing of West Harlem Avenue. The engineering agreement is for a phase 1 environmental study. The study is required in order to have access to federal road funds.

A motion was made to approve the engineering agreement with the City’s engineering firm, IMEG, and was approved.

5- Resolutions & Ordinances

A- 20-001, MFT Resolution for West Harlem Preliminary Engineering

Agreement along with Authorization of Request for Expenditure of MFT Funds

The City is currently in the early stages of planning the reconstruction of West Harlem Avenue. The first stage of the project includes an engineering agreement which will be funded with motor fuel tax funds. Motor Fuel Tax funds are highly restricted in their use and may only be utilized if a project meets specific guidelines, and the City Council passes a resolution.

A motion was made for approval and was approved. 6- Other Business

No other business was discussed tonight

7- Executive Session

No Executive Session was held this evening.
