United CUSD 304 Board of Education met Oct. 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. October 10, 2019. Roll was called and answered by: Dana Poole, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Kristin Dutton, and Craig Allaman. Also in attendance: Sheila Pressley, Carson Clayton, Joe Sarb (Moxie Solar), and Julian Vandevelde (Moxie Solar) Aaron Leary made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Kristin Dutton Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Kristin Dutton and Debbie King. Nay – none.

Joe Sarb and Julian Vandevelde spoke on behalf of Moxie Solar. Board heard a presentation on constructing solar arrays on our campus. Discussed options and decided to seek an additional vendor for information.

First draft of a tentative levy was discussed.

Discussed the possiblity of subscribing to the IASB policy services - Press Plus version. Members are encouraged to get information at the Board convention in Chicago in November.

Superintendent Whitsitt reported on ongoing life safety projects and upcoming ones. Discussion regarding track progress. Interviews on the auditorium construction will take place next week.

Presented the request from the University of Miami to discontinue use of the split U. Superintendent Whitsitt was asked to continue to seek a resolution with the University representatives to form a solution.

Board was presented the journal entries coming from the recent audit.

A motion to approve the consent agenda as presented was made by Craig Allaman with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Kristin Dutton, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Debbie King. Nay – none.

At 7:30 pm, Joel Johnson made a motion to enter into closed session, with intent to return to open, for the purpose of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. The selection of a person to fill a public office, including a vacancy in public office, when the District is given power to appoint under law, or the discipline, performance or removal of the occupant of a public office, when the District is given power to remove the occupant under law. Kristin Dutton seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Kristin Dutton, and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

A motion was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Joel Johnson to Employ Maddison Klein as part-time evening custodian at UHS. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

Adjourn

Craig Allaman made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:59 p.m. Hank Shimmin seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Craig Allaman, Kristin Dutton, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.
