United Community School District 304 Board of Education met Nov. 14.

CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. November 14, 2019. Roll was called and answered by: Dana Poole, Aaron Leary, Joel Johnson, Kristin Dutton and Debbie King. Also in attendance: Sheila Pressley, Carson Clayton, Jake & Tom from Simple Ray, Chris Schwarz, Amy Schmitz, Pat Coate, Maggie Wallace and Kris Repp.

AGENDA

Aaron Leary made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Joel Johnson, Aaron Leary and Debbie King. Nay – none.

SOLAR POWER

Jake and Tom from Simple Ray discussed their power purchase agreement offer with the board.

TAX LEVY

A motion was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Joel Johnson to accept the tentative tax levy and set a Truth in Taxation Hearing for December 12, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Joel Johnson, Aaron Leary and Debbie King. Nay – none.

AUDIT

A resolution to accept the financial audit as presented was made by Aaron leary with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Joel Johnson, Aaron Leary and Debbie King. Nay – none.

FIRE ALARM

Debbie King made a motion to approve the quote to complete the fire alarm update at the West Elementary. Aaron Leary seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Joel Johnson, Aaron Leary and Debbie King. Nay – none.

SOLAR  Aaron Leary made a motion to sign a letter of intent with Simple Ray with a 30 year fixed rate. Kristin Dutton seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Joel Johnson, Aaron Leary and Debbie King. Nay – none

CONSENT AGENDA

A resolution to approve the consent agenda as presented was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Kristin Dutton. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Joel Johnson, Aaron Leary and Debbie King. Nay – none.

CLOSED SESSION

At 7:29, Debbie King made a motion to enter into closed session, with intent to return to open, for the purpose of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. The selection of a person to fill a public office, including a vacancy in public office, when the District is given power to appoint under law, or the discipline, performance or removal of the occupant of a public office, when the District is given power to remove the occupant under law. Joel Johnson seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Kristin Dutton and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

RESIGNATION

A motion was made by Debbie King with a second by Joel Johnson to regretfully accept the resignation of Amanda Switzer, West Elementary Paraprofessional as of 12/2/19. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Aaron Leary, Kristin Dutton, Debbie King and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

EMPLOYMENT

Aaron Leary made a motion to employ Brenda Vancil as Paraprofessional at the West Elementary effective 12/2/19. Kristin Dutton seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton Debbie King, Aaron Leary and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

A motion to employ Jennifer Taylor as West Elementary Paraprofessional as of 10/21/19 was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Aaron Leary. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Debbie King, Aaron Leary and Joel Johnson. Nay – none

Kristin Dutton made a motion to employ Jason Lancaster as JH Athletic Director for the 2020-21 school year. Aaron Leary seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Debbie King, Aaron Leary and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

A motion to employ Courtney Eklund as long term sub for the West Elementary 2nd grade, effective December 9, 2019 was made by Debbie King with a second by Aaron Leary Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Debbie King, Aaron Leary and Joel Johnson. Nay – none. A motion to employ Wade Thiele as Assistant Wrestling Coach for the 2019-20 school year was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Aaron Leary. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole,Kristin Dutton, Debbie King, Aaron Leary and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

Adjourn
