Illinois state Sen. Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria) works hard to uphold his reputation as a staunch advocate for education, even founding a program to honor the work of teachers who go above and beyond in the interest of their students.
“One of our new initiatives this year, starting in January, is recognizing teachers in the 37th District, and the many unique and dynamic ways they interact with and guide our children in the classroom," Weaver posted on Facebook. “Serving on the Senate Education Committee for the past three years, I have become keenly aware of the teacher shortage in our state and in our country, one of the problems being that we do not appreciate our teachers.”
Weaver described his program as being designed to put the spotlight on those who are making the biggest difference in their communities. As part of that effort, the senator plans to reach out to local superintendents across his district to identify and promote outstanding teachers.
“We are also considering recommendations from members of the community, so if you know of a teacher who should be considered for this honor, please contact our office in Peoria,” Weaver posted. “For inspiration, think about a teacher who made a difference in your school experience and inspired you to be the person you are today.”
