City of Galesburg City Council met Sept. 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Attendees:

Carrie McKillip

Christina King

Demarkius Medley

Chris called the meeting to order at 6:42 P.M.

Discussion of issue Medley faced

Questions arose regarding how to file a grievance against police

Welcome to new commissioners Bledsoe and Donaldson

Review of Racial Taboo Event

New event discussion reached out to Director of racial taboo

Can show movies about school targeted towards teachers and administrators

Donaldson to ask Jodi Scott

Would like to see two showings potentially at an Institute day and to the public Regional and/or local schools

The movie is 50 minutes long would like facilitated discussion after

ROE would be a great way to offer professional development credits during contract time would be nice as well

McKillip will follow up with the school district

McKillip discussed the Massachusetts 54th

Would like a standalone monument

Grimes to check comp and park plan

Speech contest was discussed during Black History Month

Medley explained the speech and poem program

McKillip talked about different levels for different age groups

Juneteenth event planning would like to help

Out of darkness walk this Saturday at noon

NAACP gala September 14

School board meeting September 16 at 7 PM

Pflag meeting on the second Saturday of every month

NAACP meeting the fourth Tuesday of every month

Motion to close meeting by Grimes

Seconded by McKillip

Motion passed and carried

Meeting closed at 7:45 p.m.
