United Community School District Board met June 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER 

The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m., June 13, 2019. Roll was called and answered by: Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary and Hank Shimmin. Also in attendance: Sheila Pressley, Makenzie Rutledge, Maggie Wallace, Chris Schwarz, Amy Schmitz, Roger Shurtz and Kris Repp.

AGENDA Debbie King made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Aaron Leary Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Aaron Leary and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

SHOWING SUCCESSES 

The board recognized Makenzie Rutledge for her service as the first student representative to the United Board of Education. Roger

Shurtz spoke with the board about his work and plans for technology in the district.

BOARD MEMBER EXP 

A resolution to approve a resolution to set the daily dollar amount at $125/day for board member expenses for FY20 was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Aaron Leary and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

BUDGET 

A motion was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Debbie King to approve the amended budget for FY 2019. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman, Joel Johnson, Debbie King, Hank Shimmin and Aaron Leary Nay – none.

DELABAR 

Craig Allaman made a motion to approve a resolution to approve an IGA with Delabar CTE. Kristin Dutton seconded the motion.. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Hank Shimmin, Aaron Leary and Joel Johnson Nay – none.

UPDATES 

Superintendent, Jeff Whitsitt, updated the board on the 5 projects currently going on in the district. The bus barn is nearly complete, the HVAC system at the west campuses are on schedule. The bus ramp and roof at the high school are coming along.

Legislature has been passed to set the minimum number of calendar days to be attended by students. We will need to add 1 day to our currently 2019-20. They have also passed a minimum salary of $40,000 and the 6% salary increase during the last 4 years prior to retirement was approved.

Our health insurance rates will be going down.

CONSENT AGENDA 

A motion to approve the consent agenda as presented was made by Debbie King with a second by Kristin Dutton. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

CLOSED SESSION 

At 6:56, Hank Shimmin a made a motion to enter into closed session, with intent to return to open, for the purpose of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. The selection of a person to fill a public office, including a vacancy in public office, when the District is given power to appoint under law, or the discipline, performance or removal of the occupant of a public office, when the District is given power to remove the occupant under law. Debbie King seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Craig Allaman, Debbie King and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

EMPLOYMENT 

Hank Shimmin made a motion to employ Bobbi Neice as head cook at North Elementary. Debbie King seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

A motion to employ Keeley Brinkmeier as North Elementary Teacher was made by Hank Shimin with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

Hank Shimmin made a motion to employ Khristi Kramer as a Science Teacher at UJHS for the 19-20 school year. Debbie King seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

A motion to employNicole Hull as Language Arts Teacher at UJHS for the 19-20 school year was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

A motion to employ Sarah Horner as Business/Tech Teacher at UHS for the 19-20 school year was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Aaron Leary. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

A motion to employ Mary Schuytema as Art Teacher at UHS /UJHS for the 19-20 school year was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

A motion to employ Cameo Johnson as West Elementary Secretary for the 19-20 school year was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

A motion to employ Tiffany Leary as West Elementary Cook for the 19-20 school year was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Hank Shimmin. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

DISABILITY 

A motion to approve a request for disability for Mary Murray for the 19-20 school year after which, Ms. Murray will be retired from the district was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Aaron Leary. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none

RESIGNATION 

A motion to regretfully accept the resignation of Brooke Anderson as Boys’ Golf Coach was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Aaron Leary. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none

A motion to regretfully accept the resignation of Jalynn Young as Head Softball Coach was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Hank Shimmin. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none

Adjourn

Hank Shimmin made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:47 p.m. Aaron Leary seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Kristin Dutton, Debbie King, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin, Craig Allaman and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.
