City of Galesburg Golf Advisory Commission met June 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

Roll Call: Present: Members: Paul Sandborg, Jerry Reynolds, David Selkirk, Park Superintendent Don Miles, Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke, Greenskeeper Matt Miles and Director of Parks & Recreation Tony Oligney-Estill

Absent: Steve Cheesman, Rodney Bunch

Minutes of May 28, 2019 meeting were approved.

Greenkeeper Report:

Greenskeeper Matt Miles reported:

● Green were sand top dressed and rolled.

● Cart path and parking lot areas were repaired with cold patch.

Report was reviewed and accepted.

Golf Professional Report:

Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke reported:

● Senior’s Only “Super-Ball”

o 60 golfers participated

o Great turnout and a beautiful day

o $600.00 in merchandise credit paid out

● Golf Outings

o Teen Court/Lolita Junk Golf Outing

▪ 64 player mini shotgun on a Saturday morning

o Alpha Legion Golf Outing

▪ 32 player mini shotgun on a Saturday morning

o Galesburg Christian School

▪ 42 player mini shotgun on a Saturday morning

● All-City “Senior”

o Only 14 entries for 2019

o Significantly less players than previous years

● May revenue was down $14,397 compared to 2018. The course saw over 1,000 less rounds played this May than in 2018. The loss of revenue and less rounds played is all attributed to the historically wet/rainy weather in May.

● Next events on the calendar

o Peoria Sandtrappers has 92 players on Thursday, June 27th

o “Money-Ball” Thursday, July 11th

• Passes sold through 6/24/19. The amount listed for 2018 is for the entire year of 2018.

o Regular – 56, down 2 from 2018

Senior – 100, up 2 from 2018

o Associate – 8, down 2 from 2018

o Family – 1, up 1 from 2018

o Minor – 13, up 1 from 2018

o Junior – 7, new in 2019

o Young Adult – 9, new in 2019

o First Time Season Pass – 28, down 18 from 2018

o Default – 15, down 3 from 2018

• Total cards sold through 5/27/2019. The amount listed for 2018 is for the entire year of 2018.

o 10 Round (9 holes) – 7, up 1 from 2018

o 10 Round (18 holes) – 15, up 1 from 2018

o 20 Round – 15, down 10 from 2018

o Default – 1, same as 2018

• Bryan commented that his new staff have been doing very good work and is very pleased with their performance.

Report was reviewed and accepted.

Old Business:

● Tony spoke to Mike Whitson about the firefighter golf outing. Mike is no longer on the planning committee for that golf outing but did say the outing goes back to Gibson Woods every year because that is where the outing started, and they were happy with it. Tony asked Mike to pass along to the planning group that if they ever look to change locations, to consider Bunker Links.

● Some changes to rates were suggested and will be voted on at the July Golf Commission meeting.

● The Golfboard demo has been rescheduled. Tony will pick up the Golfboard from Indianapolis on July 3rd. The Golfboard will be available for demo starting July 4th through July 30th. Tony will then take the Golfboard back to Indianapolis.

● Walk behind electric push carts run between $1,000 to $2,000. Staff is researching if there would be market for this type of item.

● Staff is working on getting cost projections to fix the drainage on several holes and renovating the club house deck.

New Business:

● A discussion was had about adding a sound system to the club house and possibly piping out the sound to the putting green and driving range.

● The golf cart contract expires at the end of 2019. The commission will bring back ideas of alternate items to add to the RFP for the new golf carts.
