City of Galesburg Landmark Commission met May 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Michael Fries, Suzanne Klohn, Paul Stewart, Deb Sugai, and Greta Woolsey, 5.

EXCUSED: Robert Miener, 1.

ABSENCE:

MEMBERS ABSENT: Mark Martin, 1.

OTHERS PRESENT: Becky Jollay, AP and Ann Ahler, Central Congregational Church 

Chairperson Stewart declared a quorum was present.

Approve Minutes of April 3, 2019

Member Klohn made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Member Fries.

Minutes were approved by voice vote.

Discuss Citizen Comment

None.

Discuss Staff/Commission Comment

Becky Jollay informed the Commission that Wayne Carl, Director of Public Works, was unable to attend May’s meeting, but he plans on presenting the City’s proposed brick street work at the Commission’s next meeting.

LC-19-0502 Consider Certificate of Appropriateness – 60 Public Square

Ann Ahler of Central Congregational Church attended to answer the commission’s questions and concerns. Questions raised at April’s meeting by Member Miener (absent) were followed up by Member Fries. Member Klohn contacted Member Meiner with the email for Jacksonville Stained Glass (JSG) for further questions. Having done an exceptional job with the Mary Allen West window for the Church, the Commission had no objection to JSG’s Henry Hitchcock Windows bid due to the similar materials and conditions (venting, attaching, mortar – mason work) utilized in the frame restoration and storm glazing installation. Ann Ahler expressed her appreciation for the Commission’s patience. Chairman Stewart thanked Ann for her work in preservation of Central Congregational Church.

Member Woolsey made a motion to approve this item, seconded by Member Sugai.

Ayes: Members Fries, Sugai, Stewart and Woolsey, 4.

Nays: None.

Abstentions: Klohn, 1.

LC-19-0503 Discuss Items from the Chairperson

Members discussed response to the Chairman’s letter to the School District 205 Board Member regarding the condition of the Lombard College Gym.

The 2019 Preservation Awards reception and ceremony will be held May 20, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. Members assigned responsibilities for the reception. Chairman Stewart emphasized the importance of Member’ s attendance at the reception and ceremony.

Becky Jollay will send a reminder to the Members the Friday before.

There being no further business, Member Woolsey made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Member Fries, the meeting adjourned at 6:48 P.M.
