Former state university employee Shipplett paid in $10K to pension fund, could collect $195K in retirement

Former state university employee Shuyan Shipplett, who retired in January 2018, saved $10,298 toward a pension over 8 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Shipplett would collect as much as $194,735, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Galesburg Reporter.

The projection assumes Shipplett received $4,093 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Shipplett will have already received $12,651 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
