City of Galesburg Tree Commission met December 10.

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

Meeting was called to order by Ann Pennington at 4:00 P.M.

Roll Call:   Present: Members: Ann Pennington, Millie Allen, Jake Morgan, City ArboristRyan Creek and Director of Parks & Recreation, Tony Oligney-Estill

                  Absent:

Minutes of September 10, 2018 where approved.

Arborist Report:

      • Arborist Creek submitted his report.

      • Unfortunately, many more trees were removed in 2018 than were planted.

Old Business:

      • Ryan and Tony drafted a letter and had the City Attorney review it. There were a few changes that needed to be made.

      • The Parks and Recreation Master Plan has not been adopted or accepted by City Council yet although the first reading for the City Comprehensive Plan is occurring at the City Council Meeting on December 17. This is a good sign and could mean the City Council could adopt or accept the Park and Recreation Master Plan as part of the City Comprehensive Plan.

New Business:

      • The trees planted for Arbor Day 2018 at Silas Willard Elementary School were removed as part of the parking lot and landscaping project at Silas Willard. Maple trees were planted in place of the tow magnolia trees.

      • The City of Galesburg was award a $15,000 grant by the Morton Arboretum to do a tree inventory. Jake is checking with Knox College to see if they would like to be a part of the inventory. The project will be completed by October 31, 2019.

      • Pat Trant was asked to be on the Tree Commission.

Citizen Comments:

      • Pat Trant mentioned a couple trees in the 900 block of Broad Street that looked to be in bad shape. Ryan Creek said he would take a look at them.

Meeting adjourned at 4:41 P.M.
