WATSON-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME: Doris J. Wetterow January 26, 1945 - January 16, 2019

Watson-Thomas Funeral Home issued the following announcement.

Doris June Wetterow, 75, of Galesburg, died at 1:44 p.m. Wednesday January 16, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Doris was born at home January 26, 1945 the daughter of Glen S. and Myra B. (Howard) Wetterow. Doris ran the hotel and restaurant in Victoria with her sisters Mary and Diana for many years. She then worked in the Kitchen at Knox College for several years. She worked at Carhartt for 30 years, retiring in 2002. Doris was one of the first female firefighters in the State of Illinois, volunteering for the Victoria Fire Dept. Doris was also an active union steward while she worked for Carhartt. She will be remembered for her famous peanut brittle.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Samantha Wetterow of Galesburg; five brothers, George (Diane) Wetterow of Peoria, Calvin (Sally) Wetterow of London Mills, Bruce Wetterow of Knoxville, Bob (Shelly) Wetterow of Galesburg, and Ed (Cyd) Wetterow of Monmouth; and five sisters, Patty Clewell of Galesburg, Glenda Hollis of Monmouth, Lorene Simpson of Galesburg, Diana McCoy of Victoria, and Jean Wetterow of Galesburg. Doris is also survived by the light of her life, her only granddaughter, Myra Yahnke.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Victoria United Methodist Church, Victoria. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
