Monmouth College issued the following announcement on Oct. 26.

MONMOUTH, Ill. – One of the best-selling albums of all time will be featured at the first Maple Leaf Community Concert Series event of the 2018-19 season.

Suzanne O Davis will perform songs from Carole King’s iconic 1971 album Tapestry at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Kasch Performance Hall of Monmouth College’s Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.

The second studio album by King, Tapestry was released on Ode Records and produced by Lou Adler. It is one of the best-selling albums of all time, with more than 25 million copies sold worldwide. It received four Grammy Awards in 1972, including Album of the Year.

The lead singles from the album – “It’s Too Late” and “I Feel the Earth Move” – spent five weeks at number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts.

Davis believes it’s important that the show not be an over-the-top flashy spectacle, but rather an organic and respectful salute to a musical icon who’s had a strong influence on popular music.

“The real Carole King fans are loving the show, totally appreciate that we keep it real, and get the fact that I bring the vibe of Carole with me onstage,” said Davis. “The band and I feel that from the audience within the first song. Performing the Carole King catalog is a perfect match for my abilities and experience. When I play and sing this music at the piano, I feel like I’ve really found my spot.”

Tickets are $30 at the door. Students and Monmouth College personnel with an ID are admitted free. For more information, call the Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce at 309-734-3181 or email info@monmouthilchamber.com.
