Handivan and Galesburg Transit Update:

Dedra Mannon said the ridership numbers are up this past month and a new full time driver has been hired. Cindy Thorgren, the new full time driver, has worked for the Handivan part time for the last three years. She has also hired two additional part time drivers.

Dedra plans to attend the Health Fair on September 20th at Marigold to promote the Handivan service. She has been asked to serve on the VNA Board of Directors and feels this will be an excellent opportunity to match VNA’s rural riders with the Galesburg transit system.

Amber Connour said Galesburg Transit’s numbers are also up from last month. She said the Carl Sandburg College partnership just started its second year. She said Knox College students are back and using the bus service. She said the Target bus ridership almost doubled in one month.

The Planet Fitness Dial-A-Ride service is going well.

He said he requested pricing for announcing stops over the public address system and automatic passenger counting. He will be receiving additional quotes from other vendors for this service.

Steve Gugliotta was introduced to the commission. He said that Julie Main’s Associate Planner position is being replaced.

The members discussed the Transit Section of the Comprehensive Plan.
