Retired Abingdon-Avon CUSD 276 employee James Kline saved $57,477 toward his pension over 18 years working for public schools, Illinois Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRS) records show.
Over 35 years of retirement, Kline would collect as much as $1.789 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Galesburg Reporter.
Kline, 60, who currently lives in Andalusia, earned $66,598 in his final year at Abingdon-Avon CUSD 276.
The projection assumes Kline will receive 41.6 percent of that total - $27,719 - in his first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.
After three years of retirement, Kline will have already received $85,677 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of his contributions to the state teachers' pension fund.
According to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), 22 percent of Abingdon-Avon CUSD 276 students met or exceeded the standards for the "PARCC" exams. ISBE reported that 41.7 percent of district's graduates were deemed "college ready" last year.
