City of Galesburg issued the following announcement on Sept. 5.
Beth Bergren is being recognized by the City of Galesburg as the September residential award winner of the Community Improvement Blue Ribbon Award for work on her property at 675 North Broad Street. She was nominated by Greg Medina for the improvements, which included a new front porch, storm door, front door, and landscaping.
"After many years of exposure to the elements and wear and tear, Ms. Bergren saw that her front porch was deteriorating. After little debate, she chose to replace the whole front porch, rather than just set new steps to her front door, to keep the integrity of the home's original look," said Medina. "With the addition of Hostas and tree trimming, the property really pops."
The Community Improvement Blue Ribbon Award is an initiative of the City of Galesburg with the purpose of recognizing Galesburg residents and businesses who have improved the exterior appearance of their property through new landscaping, painting, signage or general cleanup. Nominations are due the 25th of every month with winners displaying a sign during the following month.
The City congratulates this award winner and encourages residents of Galesburg to continue to submit nominations for residential, commercial or industrial improvements. Nomination forms are available on the City’s website, at City Hall in the Planning and Public Works Department, or by calling 309/345-3614 to request a form.
