CITY OF GALESBURG: Applications Being Accepted for the Help Eliminate Lead Program

Lead

City of Galesburg issued the following announcement on Sept. 5.

Applications are currently being accepted from Galesburg residents for the Help Eliminate Lead Program. The City of Galesburg and Western Illinois Regional Council are providing funding through an Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) Community Development Block Grant to qualified applicants for addressing lead hazards in their homes.

It is estimated the grant will be able to provide funds for approximately 21 homes in Galesburg to be made lead safe at no expense to the homeowner. Each home selected for the program will receive between $15,000 - $20,000 worth of assistance, which will be utilized for work such as exterior siding, windows, doors, and trim.

Requirements to be eligible for the program include living within Galesburg city limits in an owner-occupied home with the presence of lead paint hazards and meeting the state’s low-income guidelines for Knox County. Homeowners that believe they may qualify for the program can contact Jeff Cozadd, Housing Programs Manager, Western Illinois Regional Council at 309-837-3941 to schedule an appointment. WIRC will perform a detailed lead assessment of the selected properties and develop a scope of work and budget.

For more information, or to see if you may qualify for the program, please contact Jeff Cozadd at 309-837-3941. Additional information, including income guidelines, can be found in the informational brochure on the City's website.
