Mayor's Report

Mayor Rogero reminded everyone that early voting is ongoing for the Knox County General Election and State and Federal Primaries. Election Day is August 2, 2018.

The Mayor invited everyone to an announcement of a new weatherization program in partnership between the Knoxville Utilities Board, Tennessee Valley Authority, the City, and the Community Action Committee. The announcement will on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 10:30 am at the Public Works Service Center.

The Mayor announced the groundbreaking of the Lonsdale recreational complex by the Emerald Youth Foundation on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 1:30 pm at the corner of Texas Avenue and Stonewall Street.

The Mayor also announced the beginning of construction on the Magnolia Avenue Streetscape Project in August. She invited interested persons to attend an open house on Monday, July 23, 2018 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the John T. O’Connor Senior Center.

The Mayor announced a retirement reception for former Police Chief David Rausch, who was recently appointed by Governor Haslam as the new Director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The reception will be on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Holiday Inn World’s Fair Park.

The Mayor noted that there would an announcement of the date for the formal promotion ceremony for Police Chief Eve Thomas.

Reports of Council Members or Committees

Council Member Stair announced Books Sandwiched In at the East Tennessee History Center auditorium for Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 12:00 pm. He will be reviewing The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein.

Council Member McKenzie encouraged attendance at the previously announced Magnolia Avenue Streetscapes Project open house.

Council Member McKenzie announced the Lonsdale Homecoming International Celebration from August 3 to August 5, 2018. Council Member McKenzie recognized in the audience, Mona Word, a representative of the Homecoming Committee.

Council Member McKenzie recognized members of the Eternal Life Harvest Church present in the audience.

Council Member Roberto announced a Meet Your Reps meeting on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Pelican SnoBalls, 5900 Kingston Pike. Also in attendance will be Knox County School Board Representative Lynn Fugate and Knox County Commissioner Hugh Nystrom.

Council Member Roberto announced a Stuff the Bus event for Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Broadway Shopping Center. This will benefit students of Fulton High School with their school supply needs. Council Members Rider and Campen will be joining him for this event.
