Galesburg Community Unit School District 205 students suspended 351 times in a single school year

Galesburg Community Unit School District 205 reported 351 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 351 students during the year. That equates to 7.9 percent of the 4,457 students enrolled.

Of the 141 in-school suspensions, 108 were given to boys and 33 were given to girls, including 112 elementary or middle schoolers and 29 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 74 incidents. There were 50 incidents of unspecified reasons. For 115 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 210 out-of-school suspensions, 157 were given to boys and 53 were given to girls, including 120 elementary or middle schoolers and 90 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 112 incidents. There were 57 incidents of unspecified reasons. For 69 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
