McDonough County Law & Legal Committee met Oct. 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Law Library. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Lee Calvert, Eric Chapman, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, Terra Litchfield, Julie Melvin. Other persons in attendance were County Chair Scott Schwerer, Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander, Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Tim Lobdell, and Dave Schaab.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve September 13, 2021 Minutes

Vice Chair Durkin moved with a second by Member Chapman to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Dave Schaab gave the report. Schaab informed the Committee that they are running 9% to 11 % higher than 2020.

Tri-County Recycling

Tim Lobdell gave the report. Lobdell informed the Committee that they hope to have the scale installed soon. He also informed the Committee he hopes to have the numbers FY 2022 ready soon.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Four Veterans were given assistance in September. Total assistance amounted to $727.15. Smart informed the Committee that the van has new tires and brakes. He also informed the Committee that will be having the driver’s dinner at the VFW on November 4, 2021.

Sheriff’s Report

None.

Assessor’s Office Update

Three people were interviewed for the Assessor’s position.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Melvin to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

County Board Chair Comments

County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that there was a District meeting with the Chief Judge on September 30, 2021. Chair Schwerer also informed the Committee that the County was refunded $53,000.00 from Court Services, and The County Board will be looking at some redistricting due to census numbers.

Vice Chair Durkin moved with a second by Member Litchfield to adjourn the meeting at 7:18 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
