FOIA Request to Warren County Sheriff Regarding Immigration Detainer Records Issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency on January 29, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Galesburg Reporter have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Warren County Sheriff’s office.

The request seeks documents and/or records showing persons committed to county jails who have had an Immigration Detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency lodged against them since January 29, 2024. This information is critical in understanding the extent of immigration enforcement within our local community.

As a media organization, we are deeply involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that this information will contribute significantly towards enhancing public understanding of how immigration laws are being enforced at a local level. We look forward to sharing our findings with our readers once we receive a response from the Warren County Sheriff’s office.
